چکیده

We have developed an adaptation of multi-variate analysis of variance (MANOVA) to analyze statistically both local and global patterns of multi-electrode array (MEA) electrophysiology data where the activities of many (typically >100) neurons have been recorded simultaneously. Whereas simple application of standard MANOVA techniques prohibits extraction of useful information in this kind of data, our new approach, MEANOVA (=MEA+MANOVA), allows a more useful and powerful approach to analyze such complex neurophysiological data. The MEANOVA test enables the detection of the "hot-spots" in the MEA data and has been validated using recordings from the rat olfactory bulb. To further validate the power of this approach, we have also applied the MEANOVA test to data obtained from a simple computational network model. This MEANOVA software and other useful statistical methods for MEA data can be downloaded from http://www.sussex.ac.uk/Users/pmh20

Detecting correlation changes in electrophysiological data.

A correlation multi-variate analysis of variance (MANOVA) test to statistically analyze changing patterns of multi-electrode array (MEA) electrophysiology data is developed. The approach enables us not only to detect significant mean changes, but also significant correlation changes in response to external stimuli. Furthermore, a method to single out hot-spot variables in the MEA data both for ...

Multi-electrode arrays technology for the non-invasive recording of neural signals: a review article

The recording of electrophysiological activities of brain neurons in the last half-century has been considered as one of the effective tools for the development of neuroscience. One of the techniques for recording the activity of nerve cells is the multi-electrode arrays (MEAs). Microelectrode arrays (MEAs) are usually employed to record electrical signals from electrogenic cells like neurons o...

Variance analysis of control variate technique and applications in Asian option ‎pricing‎

This paper presents an analytical view of variance reduction by control variate technique for pricing arithmetic Asian options as a financial derivatives. In this paper, the effect of correlation between two random variables is shown. We propose an efficient method for choose suitable control in pricing arithmetic Asian options based on the control variates (CV). The numerical experiment shows ...
